Workshop: Stay Safe at Home for Life
How You or Your Loved One Can Age in Place
Aging in place is the ability to continue to live in one’s home safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income or ability level. It means living in a familiar environment and being able to participate in family and other community activities. Research indicates that personal happiness later in life is highly dependent on an individual’s continued physical activity and involvement in activities of daily living. One way to enhance that is to ensure that their home is more livable and safer so if physical limitations develop they will be still able to adequately function at home. This presentation explains what’s involved with an environmental residential assessment that focuses on evaluating both the exterior and interior of the home, and offers recommendations for necessary decluttering, potential modifications/adaptations, and organizing strategies to decrease potential for falls.
